History of the Department
The department of Safety of Vital Activity was founded on May 31, 2019 at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences (Ph. D.), Associated Professor Koshel Volodymyr Ivanovych. The content of training and forms of control are defined by specialized curriculum and programmes developed in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Different lines of work are provided by the following associate professors:
Ph.D. Koshel V.I.—Head of the Department, a member of the editorial board of the All-Ukrainian popular science magazine “Bezpeka Zhyttiediialnosti” [Safety of Vital Activity] Kyiv, as well as member of a standing committee of the Ministry for the Knowledge Verification on Safety of Life of Officials of Ministry of Education and Science, Higher Education Institutions with Accreditation Levels I-IV, Enterprises and Institutions Belonging to the Sphere of Ministry of Education and Science Management.

All the lecturers attended training and professional development courses and obtained certificates at the Main Educational-Methodical Center of the State Committee of Ukraine for Industrial Safety of Ukraine (Kyiv) and at the Institute of Public Administration in the Field of Civil Protection (Kyiv).
The professors of the department of safety of vital activity prepared and published 1 monograph, 12 textbooks, 9 academic articles in professional publications of Ukraine.
The occupational and civil safety laboratory equipped with multimedia tools for education was set up within the department. The elements of distance learning are used in the educational process. To conduct examination in the disciplines “Principles of Occupational Safety” and “Occupational Safety in Industry” using computer technology, the tests are prepared and used.
In order to acquire new knowledge and find new ideas, the research work with thesis “Scientific and methodological approaches to professional risk management” is conducting.
The purpose of the work is to develop scientific and methodological approaches for the identification and analysis of hazards and the management of occupational risks in the fields of education, natural sciences, and information technologies.
As part of the work on the topic, cooperation was established with the State Scientific-Research Institute of Industrial Safety and Labor Safety, National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Kyiv.
The department conducts active organizational and educational work with student youth. For instance, students took part in the All-Ukrainian competition for “The Best Slogan for Occupational Safety” held in May 2013. The teachers of the department jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Committee on Supervision of Hydroponics in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast conducted a quiz game for students dedicated to the celebration of the World Day of Occupational Safety and Health. This event was highlighted by the local TV station “Halychyna”. In October 2014, the teachers of the department jointly with the Western State Inspectorate for Nuclear and Radiation Safety held a series of meetings between specialists and university students on: “Radiation around us”, “Nuclear energy – myths and reality”.
In May 2014, at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, the Ministry of Education and Science conducted training, further training and verification of officials’ knowledge on life safety (occupational safety, fire and radiation safety, road safety, sanitary and epidemic well-being of the population, civil protection, etc.).
Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Chief Safety Officer of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Hrebnytskyi G.M. noted the proper level of organization as well as conducting of training and testing knowledge of officials.
From May 15 to May 18, 2017, together with the standing commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the department provided training and tested knowledge of officials and managers of normative acts on occupational safety, fire, radiation safety and civil protection.
By providing students with the knowledge of the above mentioned subjects and making them truly effective in practice, students will be able to acquire knowledge and experience that would contribute to the adequate attitude of the person to their own and their environment security, as well as develop practical protection skills.
